Torgersen Bridge - Forming
the entranceway into Virginia Tech and named in honor of Tech's
14th president, Paul E. Torgersen, the bridge is a popular location
for students to study while overlooking the beautiful campus.
Ut Prosim - The Virginia Tech motto, "That I may Serve," is displayed
throughout the Virginia Tech campus and is lived by the student body.
3 Stars - Symbolizing the past, present and future Virginia Tech
men and women who defend our country's freedom.
Crossed Sabres - A traditional element on the ring's design, it represents
the command presence of a military officer and the Virginia Tech
Corps of Cadets.
1872 - The year Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College was
founded, later to become Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State
University.
American Flag - Waving proudly on the Virginia Tech campus the American
Flag represents pride, freedom, history, and unity.
Virginia Commonwealth Flag - The State Flag of Virginia, adopted
in 1861, bears the Great Seal of the Commonwealth with its well- known
Latin motto, "Sic Semper Tyrannis," meaning "Thus Always to Tyrants."
Screaming Eagle - A traditional ring element since the first ring
by the class of 1911, the screaming eagle, evolved originally from
twin eagles, symbolizes the virtues strength and freedom. Written
across the wings is the motto "Lest We Forget," representing all
of the Virginia Tech alumni who died serving our country.
Burruss Hall - Built in 1936, it serves as the current administrative
building which is named after Tech's eighth and first alumnus President
Julian Ashby Burruss, Class of 1898.
4- 16 Memorial - Designed and created by Tech students, this memorial
honors the 32 lives the Virginia Tech Community lost tragically on
April 16, 2007. The permanent memorial was dedicated at the beginning
of the 2008 school year, remembering those students and faculty that
left Virginia Tech too soon.
University Seal - The seal, created in 1896 and officially adopted
by the Board of Visitors in 1963, reflects the agricultural/mechanical
emphasis in the Virginia Tech curriculum during its first century.
Corps of Cadets Shield - The seal was designed by Col. Harry D. Temple,
class of 1934, in 1965, which granted the Corps to receive a formal
Coat of Arms from the Army of Institute of Heraldry.
Pylons - Designed by Henry Kries and Charles Rudy, the War Memorial
memorializes 424 Hokies who have lost their lives in the military
services. These eight pylons represent the values of Brotherhood,
Honor, Leadership, Sacrifice, Service, Loyalty, Duty and Ut Prosim.
Skipper - Named in honor of the late President John F. Kennedy, it
is the cannon currently used for football games and special events
around campus.
Flaming VT - A homecoming pep rally tradition and a symbol of Hotel
Company of the VT Corps of Cadets.
Holtzman Alumni Center - Opened and dedicated in 2005, it is the
current home of Alumni activities and the Virginia Tech Alumni Association.
Class Side
2010 Interlocking Chain - Our class motto, "With
the Strength of Many We Serve as One," appropriately represents
this traditional ring element, which symbolizes Class unity.
8 Stars - These stars represent the eight classmates we have lost
but whom will never be forgotten.
Mountains - The Blue Ridge and Alleghany mountains provide a scenic
backdrop to the Virginia Tech campus.
Downtown Blacksburg - Founded in 1798 on a thirty-eight acre tract
laid out and deeded by William Black, for whom the town was named.
Downtown Blacksburg serves as a place for the Virginia Tech community
to enjoy local favorite foods and shopping as well as nightlife.
Beat UVA - "Beat UVA" is a traditional slogan that has been included
on Virginia Tech rings for many years, representing the friendly
rivalry with the University of Virginia.
HokieBird - First appearing in 1987, the HokieBird is the official
mascot of Virginia Tech.
VT Ribbon - A symbol created in remembrance of the lives affected
by the tragic events that occurred on our campus. The tattooed
ribbon on HokieBird's forearm forever represents the strength and
unity of the Hokie Community.
B2 Stealth Bomber - Hokie football fans saw flyovers during several
football games, including a B2 Stealth Bomber, representing the
armed forces serving all over the world.
Cassell Coliseum - Seating about 10,000 screaming Hokie fans, Cassell
Coliseum has been home to the Hokies for over 40 years, proving
to be a challenging arena for all visiting opponents.
Hokie Nation - The Hokie Nation encompasses thousands of students
and alumni all over the world. With over 116 alumni chapters in
40 states and 11 countries, there are Hokies representing Virginia
Tech no matter where you go!
VT Basketball - The men's basketball team has made appearances
in the NCAA and NIT tournaments over the past two years, with promise
of great success in the future.
VT Softball - The entire Hokie community rallied behind the VT
softball team during their best season ever in 2008, making their
first ever appearance in the Women's College World Series and pitcher
Angela Tincher becoming the USA Softball National Player of the
Year.
North Endzone - The main student section of Lane Stadium.
ACC - Displayed on the Jumbotron, the Atlantic Coast Conference
logo represents the 2008 Championship win over Boston College.
Keys - Representing the key play, students shake their keys to
distract the opponents on their 3rd down.
The Gobbler - An early logo representing the university's rich
history as the "Fighting Gobblers."
Soccer Ball - Represents Virginia Tech's Men's Soccer Team making
it to the semi finals at the NCAA College Cup Tournament.
"Viribus Multorum Una Servimus" - The Latin translation of the
Class of 2010 motto: "With the Strength of Many, We Serve as One".
Cascades - A favorite hiking spot of many Virginia Tech students
which consists of a beautiful scenic trail with a stunning waterfall
at the end.
Drillfield - The Drillfield, at the center of campus, is one of
Virginia Tech's most cherished landmarks. The Drillfield serves
as the pathway to class, a stage for the Corps Pass and Review,
and as a beautiful and relaxing area for students to play sports
or study.
Duck Pond and gazebo - A favorite getaway on campus.
Hokie Tracks - Represent the forever footprints that you leave
behind at Virginia Tech.
