| | | | The top of each ring symbolically captures the essence of the university with Old Red standing proud. In the sky above, you will find the letters UTMB; and below, you can choose to feature your school initials or to have no school designation. Each side of the ring is bordered by wreaths of live-oak and olive branches, with one side featuring the university’s founding date of 1891, and the other the Texas Lone Star. These powerful symbols also feature prominently in the official seals of the University of Texas and the State of Texas. In the upper section of the University of Texas seal is an open book symbolizing the institution of learning. The motto, Disciplina Praesidium Civitatis, is a Latin rendering of the phrase “Education is the guardian of democracy.”

| | | | | The inside of each Official Class Ring is forged with the words, “We stop for no storm.” These were the words of grit and determination heard after the hurricane of 1900 struck Galveston Island. The Great Storm only strengthened the resolve of the University of Texas Medical Branch to be here for the health of Texas. As true today as they were more than 100 years ago, these words capture the “can-do” UTMB spirit
—
the “roll-up-your-sleeves” attitude that unites all graduates. The inside of the Official Ring can also be engraved with the recipient’s initials, degree and class year.
